Maintaining Your Network

Well, it’s finally picking up out there and I feel confident saying (fingers crossed, knock on wood, grab your lucky rabbit's foot etc, etc,) that the market is picking up.  Personally, I’ve had a sharp increase in new searches as well as clients making hiring decisions. Just as exciting are the number of folks every week who thank me for helping in their job search. It’s usually an email that lets me know they’ve just started a new position at XYZ Co. with title and contact info. Of course , it’s not just me on the distribution list-- it’s everyone who helped the person through their transition --but it’s very appreciated.

This is criticalOnce you land a new position, DON”T FORGET YOUR NETWORK.  It takes far too long to rebuild and it’s way too easy to put your head down and forget about those who helped you and those who still need your help.  Figure out a way to include networking in your new role. Obviously, you can’t spend the same amount of time as when you were looking for a job.  But make a commitment to at least two networking meetings per month, a lunch, coffeean industry event, whatever; force yourself to maintain your network.  I guarantee it will help you and others.
